Grenada Refrigeration Air-Conditioning and Ventilating Association (GRAVA)

The Grenada Refrigeration, Air-condition and Ventilating Association (GRAVA) has being duly incorporated as an association into the revised laws of Grenada 1990 on November 14th, 2006.

The initiative to establish this association was born out of the Grenada Terminal Phase-out Management Plan (TPMP) for Ozone Depleting Substances. The events leading up to the establishment of GRAVA was coordinated by the National Ozone Unit in the Energy Division of the Ministry of Agriculture along with an organizing committee headed by Mr. Michael Mitchell. Special mention must also be made of Mr. Horace Nelson from Jamaica, who was very instrumental in having an executive instituted.

The primary objectives of the GRAVA are as follows:

  • To organize participants in the industry into one centralized group for the purpose of monitoring, encouraging and developing economic and environmentally friendly activities as it relates to the industry.
  • To service members by initiating research, technical assistance, organization of seminars, lectures, trade fairs, conferences and the like.
  • To establish and recommend standards of ethics, standards of maintenance and standards of product support based on responsibility to the consumer and to the country.

The association is lead by an eight (8) member executive which comprises of the following officers:

Asst Secretary/Treasurer: Mr. Carlos Ambrose
Public Relations Officer: Mr. Henry Frederick
Trustee: Mr. Clyne Henry
Trustee: Mr. Emmanuel Bain

Membership
GRAVA has four (4) categories of membership namely;

Full Member: Anyone who as an individual is directly involved in the Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Trade and who is qualified either by experience or education as determined by the Executive Committee of the Association and who is willing to lend support to the Association may become a member upon approval of his application to the Association and payment of the appropriate dues.

Associate Member: Any person or company who dose not qualify for full membership, but whose interest/activities are in keeping to the fundamental principles of the objectives of the Association. A Company may designate only one representative to receive publication and notices of the Association

Student Member: Anyone presently enrolled in a full-time of part-time student in a course of Air-Condition and Refrigeration with a recognized College, University or Technical school may apply for student membership providing his/her application is accompanied by the endorsement signature of a professional member of the Association. Any student member may remain in good standing only as long as he/she continues his/her course of study and remains current in his/her duties.

Honorary Member: Honorary members are elected dy the unanimous vote of the Executive Committee in recognition of those who are not members of the Association and who have rendered unusual services to the Association or the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry The Executive Committee shall make nominations for honorary membership. A certificate shall be awarded to the honorary member by the executive of the Association, thus giving public recognition to the achievements of the individual.

Presently, the Association has twenty (20) individuals with full membership. In a special general meeting those persons were recognized and given a package together with an identification card from the Association. I.D. cards are valid for one year.


Meeting Schedule

Annual General Meeting:

The last Thursday in the month of October of every calendar year. 2009 General Meeting will be on the 29th of October.

Special General Meeting:
Every four months

Executive Meeting:
Every third Thursday of the month.

Activities/projects undertaken:

  • MAC Retrofit demonstration September 16th 2007
  • Training in Good Practice. Recovery and Recycling
  • Training in alternative technology (Hydro Carbon)
  • Training in R410a and R407C
  • Develop code of good practice
  • Develop licensing system for the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration technicians
  • Develop training module on good practice, alternative technologies and the application of natural refrigerants.


Upcoming Events (Go Green)

  • Training in the use of the MAC machine and alternative technology.
  • Training in Good Refrigeration Practices, recovery and recycling, alternative technology.
  • Retrofit demonstration and the use of alternative technology in the MAC sector. Exhibition of products, tools and equipments, information on ODS and natural refrigerants.
